Seersucker Wednesday

If there is one style that I wish I could pull off, it has to be the Seersucker suit, but I kinda feel like it's a look that only Southern gentlemen drinking mint juleps or Tom Wolfe can pull off. Whatever the case, I need a new suit a wedding in Chicago in the summer, and I'm really really tempted to break out the ol' credit line and buy this bastard off of J. Peterman - even though I worry I'll look like a character out of JFK or something. But really, how could I go wrong?

According to the United States Senate, a New Orleans clothier designed "a lightweight suit in pale blue and white striped rumpled cotton fabric" early in the 20th Century "to make summer wear more comfortable." The fabric, called seersucker, became so popular that the Senate set aside "Seersucker Thursdays" for its members to wear the cool suits.
